what content warnings do handle that mutes don't: Show more
- differing spellings. "mold" and "mould" have to be their own mutes, for example.
- contextual meanings. mute "mold" and you lose out on when ppl are talking about, like, cake molds or something.
- images. a certain cube meme is a big culprit here, it's a genuinely trauma triggering meme for us and muting the words doesn't solve the images.
- opting in: some people only want to see a thing sometimes. muting and unmuting sucks for this.
additional meta note Show more
don't tell someone who asks you for a content warning "have you tried muting this instead" or some other shitty alternative, please. many people already know muting exists, especially if we came from twitter. it's not actually a good enough feature for all cases, yknow?
